Annual Alignment
Making your own maps
Hello dear newsletter subscribers,
Thank you for the warm messages after my last newsletter — it’s been energizing to experiment with this Possibility in Process :-) and to remember how much freedom we have to reshape our personal projects as we grow. So often, what limits us is our owwwnnnnn miinndddddzzzzzz. Removing myself as my own biggest block is a part of my personal process because so often, what limits us most is… us. I’m constantly in the practice of trying to move out of my own way.
For years I’ve been studying my own patterns. The habits that support me, the ones that derail me, and the ways I contribute to both. I see this with my clients as well: even when we’re trying to offer something meaningful to the world, we tend to make things much harder than they need to be. We spend hours worrying about perception, or crafting the “perfect” approach, rather than building upon our ideas.
And in all that spinning, we disconnect from the creative and authentic outpour that actually supports a more beautiful and just world.
An important way I have begun to move beyond these blocks, is through a practice my grandmother taught me, “everything has a home”. She speaks this phrase so often that it comes naturally as I putter around my home. It’s a phrase Wyeth, my husband, and I will wink toward one another as we hold up an object of the other while we’re tidying up our space together.
Everything has a home is a phrase I also use for my ideas. Intentionally determining where I store my thoughts, ideas, and to-dos has been liberating. As someone who offers operations support, these “homes” are also a core component I aim to articulate when collaborating on any type of project. Identifying WHERE a piece of information will land is key to even being able to GET to the work.
Life inevitably gets busy. We rush out the door, forget a detail we promised someone, or want to track something of importance for a future date. This type of tracking and maintenance is not glamorous, but is essential, and I believe building out systems that can ebb and flow with real life is part of living with integrity and ease.
Like with any mindfulness practice, the point isn’t that you get distracted, it is that you return to your intention. With that, I’m excited to share an upcoming offering designed to help you do just that: Annual Alignment!
